WINSTON-SALEM – Winston-Salem officials are challenging the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2008 population estimates for the city. City officials say the estimates come down to more than just bragging rights. They say their decision to appeal the new census data is purely based on money.

While the overall population in Oneida and Herkimer counties is decreasing, there are areas seeing increases, including Verona and New York Mills which each saw increases of almost 4 percent, according to recently released data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
